Happy 60th Birthday Holiday Inn

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012 was a day to celebrate a special Birthday as the HOLIDAY INN brand turned 60 years old! Here at the HOLIDAY INN UNIVERSITY HOTEL in Gainesville, Florida, we shared a BIRTHDAY CAKE with guests and employees.

No cake would be complete without something to wash it down with. Our Director of Sales, Jacqueè Williamson ensured there was fresh lemonade for all of our guests. She is also sporting a Celebrate T-Shirt, which her General Manager Kimberly Cason ordered for all employees to wear in support of the birthday celebration. Did you know that the brand’s first property was opened in Memphis, Tennessee by entrepreneur Kemmons Wilson, and while this particular hotel closed in the 1990s, the brand now has over 1,300 hotels and around 230,000 rooms worldwide?

The festivities do not end there. The front desk team was ready to answer any questions related to Holiday Inn, its history, benefits and programs such as Priority Club Rewards. Guests had a ball checking in and out and joining in the fun. There were coloring sheets with crayons for the kids, party favors throughout the lobby, balloons and signs everywhere. There were informational sheets in presentation displays to help educate our guest as well. There was a “Sign the Banner” displayed in the lobby for guests and employees to sign their name and where they were from. That was a lot of fun. Everyone got in on the action with this. Did you know that Holiday Inn was the first brand to introduce amenities such as TVs, in-room telephones and air-conditioning?

Thanks to the efforts of the Holiday Inn University Team, the celebration was a success. Did you know that Holiday Inn began as a roadside motel in 1952 to give families a great stay experience? Our founder, Kemmons Wilson, took a road trip from Memphis TN to Washington D.C. with his wife and five children, and he recognized an opportunity to create something special in hospitality-something that had never been done before. He launched Holiday Inn on August 1, 1952, to address the needs of the typical traveler.

Holiday Inn’s across the Globe took part in this milestone Celebration.

On behalf of the Holiday Inn University Hotel, Happy Birthday Holiday Inn!
