Do you remember your first day of school? Not just high school, but maybe kindergarten? My memories are faint of the first day: parents standing around, heaps of crayons and pencils on our desks, meeting my other classmates. I was a little nervous, but not too bad. Some kids were crying, some had the deer-in-the-headlights look and some were just as content as could be.
Now think back to your first day of college. How did you feel? Scared, happy, anxious or nervous? I think I was a combination of all of the above. Scared most likely because my first class ever was a Pre-Calculus class. Yikes!
As school starts here at the University of Florida and Santa Fe Community College, we want to give all the new students a few words of encouragement. This is such a fun time of your life – enjoy it!
Remember to study hard, but also enjoy yourself. College is a pivotal time in your life where you may make some of your closest friends, learn some of your most valuable life lessons and it’s when you’re studying to take on a career of your choosing. The best advice I can give any new college student is to always do what you love.
